Manta, MANABI
That the direct air route from Manta to the Galapagos Islands be completed before January 31. That is the goal that the national and local government authorities have set for the creation of this new frequency that was announced by the President of the Republic himself, Guillermo Lasso.
And that is why this Wednesday through a statement from the Ministry of Transport and Public Works (MTOP) it was reported that next Friday delegates from the Galapagos Biosafety Agency (ABG) will tour the facilities of the Eloy Alfaro airport in Blanket.
It was indicated that this is one of the previous steps to link the Manabita terminal by air with towns on the enchanted islands.
This inspection is one of the first actions to be carried out to activate the route between both towns in this month of January. One of the revisions will be the entrance doors for tourists to the Galapagos, among other observations.
Airlines are interested in opening routes from Manta to the Galapagos, Panama and New York
Darío Herrera, Minister of Transport and Public Works, indicated through his Twitter account that there are 26 steps defined in the roadmap that was prepared on December 12.
Among these processes is this inspection that must be carried out by ABG delegates at the Eloy Alfaro de Manta airport.
Another point to analyze will be the reform of the Migration and Residence regulations of the Special Regime of Galapagos, which indicates Quito and Guayaquil as the only departure airports for said jurisdiction. Herrera maintained that progress is being made in this process.
For this reason, the Secretary of State estimates that by January 31 of this year, the first direct flight from that Manabi terminal to the Galapagos would be traveling from Manta.
Authorities formalize plans to implement air route between Manta and Galapagos
The idea that this materializes encourages the Manabitas authorities. Agustín Intriago, mayor of Manta, said that with this route tourism will emerge and will further boost the economy of the residents.
Intriago believes that once the route to the islands is completed, they will also work on the proposal to start flights to Panama and other parts of the world.
“It will not go beyond the first quarter of 2023, we have complied with all the requirements requested by the Galapagos government,” said Jimmy Villavicencio, president of the Citizen Technical Committee of the Eloy Alfaro de Manta airport.
To undertake this new aerial proposal, an office is required for the administrative part, another for biosecurity control and the x-ray machine.
From the municipality of Manta it was indicated that everything is operational and they are only waiting for the Galapagos authorities to approve the four routes proposed by the airline Avianca, endorsed by the Airport Defense Committee and the Manta Mayor’s Office.
Villavicencio said that within the approval processes there must be a prior report from the Galapagos Biosafety Management and the Galapagos National Park.
These instances will deliver this report to the Governing Council, which is made up of four State ministers, three Galapagos mayors and the presidents of the parish councils, so that they proceed to the approval.
The airport maintained that it had a rehabilitation also modified its areas to be able to locate the equipment and offices that require the ABG.
“This whole process has the support of the Committee created by the Manta mayor’s office, and I continue to hold conversations with the mayors of Galapagos, who have a very high interest in establishing this route, because there is already an agreement signed between the mayors of Galapagos and the one in Manta for two years, and in which air connectivity was precisely sought, ”said Villavicencio.
