Italy has frozen the assets of Russian businessmen in the amount of more than 800 million euros. This, according to RBC, said Prime Minister Mario Draghi.
In addition, Draghi said that Italy supports Ukraine’s accession to the European Union.
Earlier, the Minister of Finance of the Netherlands, Sigrid Kag, spoke about the freezing of Russian assets in the amount of 392 million euros. And in Poland, meanwhile, as part of sanctions against Russia, 140 million zlotys (about $33 million) were frozen in the accounts of Russian citizens.
It was also reported that France froze the assets of the Central Bank of Russia in the amount of 22 billion euros. According to the Minister of Economy and Finance of the country, Bruno Le Maire, funds in the accounts of individuals in the amount of 150 million euros and real estate worth 500 million euros, owned by about 30 Russians, have been frozen.
The day before, Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio announced Rome’s openness to the fifth package of sanctions against Russia. According to him, not only there are no votes against these measures from Rome, on the contrary, Di Maio noted, Italy is waiting for proposals from the European Commission.
Recall, on February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. In his speech, he stated that “circumstances require decisive action from Russia” and stressed that “Russia will not allow Ukraine to have nuclear weapons.” In response to Russia’s actions, Western countries (USA, Canada, European Union, Great Britain, Japan) announced new, more stringent, sanctions against the Russian Federation, including financial and economic ones.
