The mayor of Quito met with representatives of the Pichicha Land Transportation Federation.
The inclusion of taxis in the Pico and Placa, in Quito, was the reason for a meeting between Mayor Santiago Guarderas and representatives of the Pichincha Land Transport Federation. The meeting took place on the afternoon of November 4, the same day that the vehicle restriction measure began to take effect.
According to the Municipal Code, operators and holders of Vehicles intended for taxi service will be subject to the mechanisms of rationalization or vehicle restriction that are established in accordance with the territorial ordinance. In addition, the Traffic Law establishes that only 100% electric vehicles are exempt.
According to a bulletin issued by the Municipality, Nurseries expressed to the leaders of the taxi driver union that it is open to carrying out technical work tables and technically evaluate the measure, if necessary.
Additionally, Carlos Brunis, president of the Federation, reported that within 15 days a review will be made with the mayor, in order to verify the effects of the Peak and Plate. In addition, work will be done on the reform of the ordinance that establishes the restriction for commercial taxi transport.
The schedules of the vehicular restriction sound of 05:00 to 10:00 and from 16:00 to 21:00, depending on the last digit of the plates. Monday applies to plates ending in 1 and 2; Tuesday, plates 3 and 4; Wednesdays, 5 and 6; Thursday corresponds 7 and 8; and Friday 9 and 0. Saturday, Sunday, and holidays there is free movement.
On October 28, several taxi drivers staged a sit-in in the Plaza Grande, in rejection of the Pico y Placa. The representatives of 330 associations delivered to the Secretariat of the Municipality a formal request addressed to the Mayor, so that the sector is part of the exceptions of the measure. Drivers argue that stopping work one day will affect them because their income will drop.
Another point addressed in the meeting with Guarderas was about speed up the procedures for operating permits for companies that comply with Municipal Ordinance 017-2020. The Mayor assured that the processes that are dammed will be expedited. (I)
