A forest fire was registered on the night of this Thursday 4 in one of the hills of Winchele, in the south of the city of Esmeraldas.
The alert was reported by inhabitants of the EP Petroecuador villas, around 8:00 p.m. and was registered near the oil pipeline of the state oil company.
According to Miguel Perea, head of the Esmeraldas Fire Department, the fire was controlled with suffocation maneuvers. The pipeline that passes through that sector is also out of danger, he assured.
Fire fighting units and personnel from the Esmeraldas Refinery supported the flame control tasks.
During the fire, there was concern among the inhabitants of the Petroecuador housing complex and nearby areas, who remained alert.
“I still remember the tragedy of 2006 when the pipeline that caused a Dantesque fire that left fatal victims was affected,” recalled Sara Vera, inhabitant of the La Concordia citadel.
Fire Brigade personnel were carrying out fire extinguishing maneuvers after 9:00 p.m. There were no injuries or deaths in the event. (I)
