They apprehend members of an organization involved in counterfeiting money in Ibarra

Three Colombians and three Ecuadorians were arrested in possession of supplies with which they made paper money for making 20-dollar bills.

The Imbabura Police dismantled a criminal organization implicated in the crime of counterfeiting currency and other documents. It was indicated that this network had been operating in a hotel located on Fray Vacas Galindo and Cristóbal de Troya avenues, in Ibarra.

Three Colombians and three Ecuadorians were apprehended in possession of various inputs with which they made the paper money to make the adulterated banknotes, reported Norman Cano, commander of the Imbabura Police Subzone.

Cano indicated that the subjects forged $ 20 bills. Once prepared, the money was intended to be distributed during the holiday in various cities in the north of the country. In one of the rooms, chemicals, inks and paper were found that were being used by the members of this organization.

With the support of the Group of Motorized Operations of Otavalo and Criminalistics, the Ecuadorians Francisco Alfonso Z., 47 years old; Brayan Steven G., 24; and Alfredo Iván Ch., 42. The Colombian citizens were identified as John Jairo Q., 30, Líder Benito C., 28; and Jessica Alejandra R. from 25.

A triangulation and mobile cell location operation allowed the three Ecuadorians to be apprehended in Otavalo. All are accused of the alleged crime against the monetary regime.

In two rooms of the residential where the Colombian citizens were staying, they were seized: a box with 28 bottles with chemicals, brown black paper, traffic paper with the denomination of 20 dollars, plastic covers and four cell phones.

A gold-colored vehicle with identification plates belonging to the province of Guayas was also detained.

Arrested for vehicle theft

In another police action, the gang called Los Patiños, made up of five people, who were dedicated to stealing vehicles in the six cantons of Imbabura, was arrested. The Judicial Police carried out six raids to carry out this operation.

Cano reported that during the holiday 57 people were apprehended, 27 of them for crimes and 30 for violations, with the highest incidence being those related to domestic violence, which make Imbabura one of the provinces with the highest rates in the country, he said. the official.

In addition, nine vehicles and eight motorcycles were seized, 4,804 liberators were removed from public space and six knives, two pistols and 10,591 grams of marijuana were immobilized. (I)
