At the beginning of December 2022, the Ministry of Tourism released the calendar of holidays for the years 2023, 2024 and 2025, with the aim that citizens and the tourism sector can plan their next tours of the country.

In Ecuador there are twelve holidays every year.
According to the holiday law, in force since 2016, the country has eleven days of rest at the national level every year that are not recovered.
In addition, in each province a day is added for local holidays for a total of twelve days of holidays.
Why in the next three years Ecuador will have 11 holidays even though the original days are marked on weekends
For Holbach Muñeton, president of the National Federation of Provincial Chambers of Tourism of Ecuador (Fenacaptur), having defined the specific days of holidays helps.
He argued that everything that is planned is supportive since it allows the rules of the game to be defined.
“We know what day we are going to have a holiday, what day we are not, and this will help both sides to plan: the one who is going to travel, the tourist, and the businessman plan,” he said.
He added that due to the economic situation the inventory is not available full, but only what is bought is fair and sometimes they are perishable products.
In which Latin American countries are there more holidays?

According to Jorge Benítez, president of the Esmeraldas Chamber of Tourism, it is good to know the calendar of holidays to schedule.
With this, he added, people are organized and the sector can promote more assertively.
In the case of the insecurity of which Esmeraldas has been affected and one of the effects has been the decrease in the arrival of tourists, Benítez pointed out that there should be no scandal or sensationalism.
“Teach the good and not decontextualize what is happening (…), there are no records of the violent events that we have experienced that have been in tourist sites,” he said.

Raúl García, president of the Pichincha Chamber of Tourism, mentioned that in many countries there are more holidays because they know that the economy is boosted, especially in rural areas.
When asking Muñeton about what else could be done to boost the sector, he replied that the time for payment of the debts they maintain could be extended, adding that the authorities do not understand that.
He added that they need to have more flow to cover the debts they maintain and the way to do it is to encourage tourism.
Some of the proposals is that 1% VAT be charged for at least six months in all tourist activities.
That will cause, in his opinion, that there is dynamism, but that the Government does a test of the effect that could be achieved.
García suggests applying a strategic promotion of destinations in Ecuador, support from local governments in promoting their areas, building image and destination quality.
A hotel occupancy of at least 55% projects Cuenca for Christmas and New Year holidays based on promotion carried out in various provinces
For Muñeton, maybe you lose in VAT collection, but you could win in the creation of sources of employment, income tax, promotion, production.
Benítez pointed out that other actions are lacking in their town, such as connectivity between Quinindé-Esmeraldas, promotion by the Ministry of Tourism, local governments and even themselves as businessmen.
Before the Christmas holiday, so far in 2022 the holidays have already generated economic income of more than $389 million. (YO)
