Despite the state of exception, several crimes and assassination attempts were recorded in Guayaquil.
During the long holiday for the Day of the Dead and the Cuenca festivities, 49 violent deaths were registered at the national level, despite the state of emergency that prevails in at least seven provinces. This is revealed by figures from the National Police.
In Zone 8, several cases were reported on these days off, especially in the south of the city. The most recent case occurred in central Guasmo: a man in his 30s was shot, along with another subject, when he was riding a motorcycle on the avenue Adolfo H. Simmons.
Three crimes were registered in El Carmen, Esmeraldas and Santo Domingo
The crime occurred on the afternoon of Wednesday 3, in front of several witnesses, who saw how the occupants of the tricimoto were shot from a motorcycle.
One of them was shot twice and, despite being transferred to a nearby hospital, bled to death. The other was shot in the leg and recovers.
“One was shot in the back, while the companion survived the attack, but is wounded,” said Paúl Salazar, Chief of Operations for the Southern District.
Now, the Police are investigating whether it is a dispute between gangs. Several armed attacks were recorded in the Main Port during the holidays.
Man killed with headshots in Manta
The day before, in the southern Guasmo, another man was killed while talking on the phone outside his home, in the Cristal cooperative.
Anselmo Villalba, 50, had received a phone call asking him to leave his family’s house, when he was intercepted by two young men who shot him at least eight times. Three of the projectiles hit him and killed him.
Only in the South district there are already more than 120 violent deaths this year. There are 549 in Zone 8 (Guayaquil, Durán and Samborondón). (I)
