Mayor Santiago Guarderas announced the first news that occurred in the Quito Metro stations, which opened on December 21.
Last week two young people who entered the La Magdalena stop, to the south of the city, were drinking and playing guitar, when they tried to leave the place they realized they were locked up, so they walked along the rails, where the trains will circulate Looking for a way out, said Guarderas, who pointed out that those involved had a bottle.
“If we were operating (of the trains) we would already have a problem, an event. This is exactly what we are trying to avoid”, said the mayor in statements to the media.

The young people were identified by the security cameras of the transportation system, they were able to leave without problems.
Guarderas stressed that this event confirms the need for citizens to be trained on how the Metro works, in order to prevent incidents.
“Experiences in other countries show that one of the problems that arise at the inaugurations (of metros) is suicide, which is what we also have to prevent. And others who, because they have never known (an underground transport system) cross the rails thinking that this is the way in which they can make the turn, if they have made a mistake”, mentioned the mayor and called for the young people do not play push, because that can mean the death of one of them.
Another novelty alerted by Guarderas, through social networks, was that one of the entrance panels to the Iñaquito station, north of the city, was painted with graffiti.
“Dear fellow citizens, the Quito Metro is yours, we must all take care of it and denounce its misuse and the attack on its facilities! Acts like this only account for people who do not love their city”, published the mayor with a photograph.

Since the Quito Metro opened its doors, more than 17,000 people have visited the stations to learn about how it works.
Until January 4, people can access the stations, as part of the static induction phase, which focuses on training users. During this time there will be no circulation of trains.

From January 5 to March 4, on the other hand, another induction phase will take place where citizens will be able to get around in the wagons, free of charge.
As of March 5, the commercial operation of the Metro will begin with the collection of the ticket, whose rate is 45 cents if only the trains are used and 60 cents if, in addition, the passenger travels on Ecovía or Trole. (YO)
