Ecuador continues to amaze the world, this time it received recognition from the World Organization for Tourism (OMT) that chose two local destinations as part of the best around the world for tourism in 2022.
The agency specified that the Best Tourism Villages by UNWTO program recognizes rural destinations that “make tourism an engine for development and new employment and income opportunities, while preserving and promoting the values and products of the community.”
Government announces the list of holidays between 2023 and 2025 for Ecuador
In Ecuador, Aguarico in the Orellana province and the Angochagua parish in the Imbabura province were included.
In addition, the innovation and sustainability of these destinations is recognized. For this year, 32 towns from 18 countries were elected, which were evaluated by an independent advisory council and 9 areas were evaluated.

They received the candidacy of 136 towns from 57 member states (each of them could present up to three) and only 32 were able to obtain recognition. In addition, 20 more towns will enter an improvement program.
This is the first time that two Ecuadorian towns are part of the organization’s global network as Best Tourism Villageswhich was created in 2021.
The awards ceremony is scheduled for February 27 and 28, 2023 in Al-Ula, in Saudi Arabia. The next edition will open in February 2023.
