Man killed with headshots in Manta

Victim had a criminal record for illicit association, a fact that occurred in March 2017 in Esmeraldas.

MANTA, Manabi

In less than 48 hours, a new violent death was registered in the Manta canton, the 43rd so far in 2021.

According to the first investigations, a subject waited for the arrival of José Leonardo Castro Espinoza to shoot him four times in the head. The incident occurred around 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday 3 in the La Pradera citadel, in the northeast of Manta.

Castro had arrived at his home at that time along with his wife, who immediately entered a bathroom in their home. She told the police that, as soon as she entered that part of her building, she heard some detonations and, when she hurried out of the bathroom, she found her spouse lying in the living room with several head injuries.

“We find ourselves with a violent death; the victim has already been lifted and the protocol has been carried out… She was found with four head injuries, (caused) by the passing of a firearm projectile, ”said Patricio Armendariz, chief of the Manta Police District.

An alleged debt would have been the motive for the murder of a foreigner in Manabí

The victim registered a criminal record for illicit association in March 2017 in the Esmeraldas canton.

The attacker, according to witnesses, was waiting for Castro to arrive at his house and, after a few seconds, enter that house and shoot him repeatedly. After the crime was committed, the perpetrator fled by walking to a corner where another person on a motorcycle was waiting for him to flee.

The heartrending screams were heard in the living room of the house where Castro resided; They were from his relatives, who demanded justice for this crime that scared the residents of the La Pradera citadel, one of the peripheral areas with the greatest commercial movement in Manta.

That was the second victim of violent acts on the holiday in the Manabi port. Last Monday, in the Tarqui parish, a Venezuelan was murdered by one of his compatriots, presumably because of a debt that the victim had with the alleged murderer, who was apprehended a few minutes after that incident.

For now, the Police continue with the investigations to find those responsible for the Castro Espinoza crime. (I)
