Ukraine has approved a list of military personnel who will be trained in the management of US Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems (SAMs). According to RBC with reference to the Ukrainian media, this was stated by the representative of the command of the Air Force of Ukraine Yuriy Ignat.
“The Commander of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has approved a list of military personnel who will learn how to operate Patriot air defense systems in one of the NATO countries. A list of people who can already be sent to this training, as was the case with Iris-T and NASAMS, when after a few weeks our specialists learned how to skillfully operate these complexes, ”Ignat said.
The representative of the Armed Forces of Ukraine did not specify in which country the training course would be, but noted that it would take two to three months to train the military to serve the Patriot. “Patriot is a different system that takes more time. But we are not talking about nine months. This training will be sent to people who have been trained at the Kharkiv Air Force University. These are ready-made specialists, people with combat experience, the prospect of military service,” he added.
Recall that the US authorities announced the provision of Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine on December 21. At the same time, US President Joe Biden said that Washington will continue to “strengthen Ukraine’s capabilities for self-defense, especially air defense.”
