“We are starting our trip to Washington, where we will visit President Joe Biden at the White House. We will discuss issues related to democracy, economy and security,” said the president before boarding the aircraft.
The United States-Ecuador Association Law provides for the promotion of “inclusive economic growth” and cooperation on security and prison issues
As part of his agenda, he will hold meetings with representatives of entities such as the Inter-American Development Bank, the World Bank, and the International Monetary Fund.
Lasso said that in economic matters “there is a lot to be thankful for to the multilateral organizations”, since he indicated that last week the IMF approved the last disbursement.
In the United States, the Ecuadorian head of state will hold meetings with businessmen and dialogues with leading think tanks in the United States. The idea is, Guillermo Lasso added, to position the name of Ecuador, a country that respects democracy and independence of powers, and that has the support to face security problems.
Ecuador is the only country in Latin America that does not have a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the United States, so it will be one of the priority issues that will be addressed on this trip.
The Ecuadorian delegation will also hold a meeting with the leadership of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. (YO)
