About half (45%) of German citizens object to the supply of German Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine, follows from the results of a YouGov survey commissioned by the DPA.
Only a third (33%) of the Germans agree with the transfer of tanks to Kyiv. 22% found it difficult to answer.
At the same time, according to the results of the study, only supporters of the Greens actively approve the provision of Leopard 2 to Kyiv: exactly half are in favor of deliveries and only a quarter are against it. However, in the other two parties from the ruling coalition, opponents are in the majority: in the SPD they are 41% against 40% of those who approve of the dispatch, in the Free Democratic Party (FDP) – 42% against 33%. Supporters of the CDU / CSU bloc also for the most part do not support the supply of tanks (43% vs. 38%). Supporters of the Alternative for Germany (76% vs. 13%) and the left (52% vs. 32%) have the most objections. The survey was conducted from 16 to 21 December, 2075 citizens took part in it.
Ukraine has been trying to get Germany to send Leopard 2 for several months now. Chancellor Olaf Scholz does not want to supply combat armored vehicles without the support of partners, but Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky calls on Berlin “to be independent in its decisions.”
