Five foreign men and one woman are prosecuted for their alleged participation in the robbery of a jewelry store located in the north of Quito. The event occurred on the afternoon of Sunday, December 11 at Quicentro Shopping.
The Prosecutor’s Office reported on Tuesday that a judge from the Flagrancy Unit ordered preventive detention for the six suspects for the crimes of robbery with a firearm, and possession and carrying of weapons.
According to the victim’s version, the alleged criminals would have stolen 50 high-end watches from the premises, causing a loss of $350,000.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the antisocials would have planned their attack for several days. This is evidenced in the videos of the security cameras, where it is observed that the defendants previously monitored the movement of the jewelry.
On Sunday afternoon, the suspects entered the establishment with firearms, they submitted to the sales manager to deliver the valuables.
One of the assailants used a construction combo to break the store’s windows and steal the high-end watches.

A security guard was alerted to the robbery, but when trying to intervene he was threatened by a criminal with a firearm.
The suspects fled the mall aboard motorcycles that were waiting for them outside.
In videos broadcast on social networks, you can see the moment when the assailants run through the corridor to leave the building, while several customers of the establishment watched in fear and others sought refuge.

After learning of the fact, the Police deployed a capture operation. The five men and the woman were apprehended on Monday, December 12, after a chase. Another suspect involved managed to escape.
The fiscal investigation time of this case will last 30 days, by disposition of the judge. (YO)
