The military seized more than 600 liters of Ecuadorian diesel that was intended to be smuggled into Colombia

The Armed Forces carry out perennial controls on the Ecuadorian-Colombian border with a view to stopping the entry of drugs into the national territory from the northern neighbor and the smuggling of fuel.

In this context, uniforms from the Galo Molina Major Battalion, from Tulcán, in La Pintada, on the border between Carchi (Ecuador) and Nariño (Colombia), identified a vehicle with Loja license plates in which 44 kilos of cocaine were discovered, under the seats, in a double bottom.

Meanwhile, in the El Carmelo parish, eastern sector of Tulcán, 20 canisters of Ecuadorian diesel were stopped, whose final destination was Colombian territory, where the fuel is sold at a higher price.

The Yaguachi Mechanized Cavalry Group, from Ibarra, during surveillance and border protection operations, in Carchense territory, carried out this operation on the road that leads to the community of Cartagena, seizing a total of 544 liters of the Ecuadorian derivative that was transported in a van.

The uniformed men indicated that a suspended tank was also adapted to the rear of the car, in which 64 more liters were discovered. Hence, the sum amounted to 608 liters for which there was no corresponding documentation.

The fuel was handed over to the authorities for the corresponding legal process.

Despite the fact that the cost of the derivative is almost similar in the two countries, in the southern area of the Colombian border, a kind of shortage is registered monthly, forcing motorists to purchase national diesel or gasoline. (YO)
