In dialogue tables, the aim is to define payment agreements between the IESS and external health providers

In technical tables, the debt maintained by the Ecuadorian Social Security Institute (IESS) with the National Association of External Health Service Providers (Anpes), which groups 40 of some 400 companies that provide health care, will be analyzed.

César Serrano, director of Anpes, indicated that work groups are being formed and he hopes that, in mid-December, they will begin to talk about the most viable and efficient way to reach payment agreements.

Serrano added that the situation of the provincial coordinations will be determined.

There are 5.1 million medical attentions without audit in the IESS since 2011, the debts increase

The union leader mentioned that there have been partial payments.

The current debt of Social Security to Anpes is about $175 million, he said. It dates from mid-2021.

He added that the debt with all the providers of the private health network could be around $700 million.

He indicated that there are much older debts from 2010 to which Social Security must identify which are the providers and which are the services.

Finance completes a payment to the IESS for $198 million as part of its commitments to honor the Health debt

Serrano attributed the lack of payment to the budget assigned from the Government and due to the lack of medical audit and financial audit.

“We can reach payment commitments so that these debts are updated and they do not continue to accumulate,” he said.

One of the initiatives -he pointed out- is that the IESS would outsource the external audit service. (YO)
