A man resting in a hammock was shot by unknown assailants on a motorcycle, while another person was shot to death inside his home.

Both crimes were reported this Tuesday. The first around 3:30 p.m. on March 12 street, in the area known as Barranco Pelado –near the Portoviejo River–. There, gunmen killed Cristhian Ariel Valle Rodríguez, 25, known to his friends as Cuvi.

Valle was talking with friends when two guys got off a motorcycle and started shooting. Valle’s acquaintances jumped into the river, while the victim was relaxed in the hammock and could not avoid the bullets.

After the gunmen fled the scene, Valle’s neighbors and relatives went to help him and took him to the Verdi Cevallos Balda hospital, located about 500 meters from the place where the attack took place, but in that health house, despite medical efforts , the wounded man died.

Before Valle’s crime, in Portoviejo there were two attempted murders of two men: the first, on Monday night in the El Florón 5 sector, when a man was attacked while he was in a car, and the second, on a person who worked in a local of disposable plastic containers, in the center of Portoviejo; both are stable.

The second crime was perpetrated in the Paján canton around 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 26, in the sector of the citadel Juan José San Lucas, where a man died inside his home.

To date, 227 violent deaths have been registered in the province of Manabí, a figure that in less than seven months of this year exceeds the 197 crimes reported in all of 2021. (YO)
