Minister of Health confirmed second positive case of monkeypox in Ecuador

A 27-year-old man is the second confirmed case in Ecuador of the disease known as monkeypox. This was announced by the Minister of Health, José Ruales, during a press conference on the afternoon of Tuesday, July 19.

Ruales indicated that the patient admitted to the Eugenio Espejo Hospital, in Quito, began to present symptoms on July 14.

As background, at the beginning of the month the citizen was in Guayaquil, where he would have had contact with foreign tourists who arrived in the country, the minister explained. He ruled out that it is a community contagion and is not related to the first case detected.

Ruales explained that an epidemiological fence has already been formed in Quito and Guayaquil with people close to the citizen who contracted monkeypox. Regarding the first case, the patient has already received an epidemiological discharge, the official clarified. (YO)
