In the new episode of “The Idol” appeared a hideous “joke”. However, Polish translators spared us “impressions”

The series “The Idol” was supposed to be the new hit of HBO Max, and in fact it is still uphill. This week saw the premiere of the third episode of the production, and with it there were more voices of indignation. The episode featured an inappropriate joke that divided many viewers. Moreover, it was decided not to translate it in the Polish version.

The series showing the dark backstage of show business aroused controversy even before its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. Later, the first reviews of critics added fuel to the fire, who saw in it the fulfillment of pornographic fantasies of men, rather than the process of using an unconscious girl by the great machine called the entertainment and music industry.

“The Idol” is not eagerly watched by viewers from the United States and Western Europe, but it is doing well in Latin America, Scandinavia and Central and Eastern Europe, including Poland. For several days on the Internet, the topic of the series has been on the tongue again, but not because of the bold scenes or the topic of sex. It’s about an obscene joke that arouses a lot of controversy. Interestingly, in Poland it was decided not to translate it. Both in voice-over and with subtitles.

The network was buzzing after a controversial joke about a pedophile

In the third episode of the series, “Dawn” in one of the scenes there was a scandalous joke referring to the convicted of sexual crimes of the American financier and multimillionaire Jeffrey Epstein. At one time, there was a lot of talk about this in the media, but in Poland the topic was not as popular as in the United States. Maybe that’s why it was decided not to translate this joke in the Polish version, but there’s really nothing to regret.

The unsavory prank comes when Jocelyn (Lily-Rose Depp) is having a “nice time” with Tedros (Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye) and her staff is starting to worry about her. During a phone call between artist managers Chaim (Hank Azaria) and Andrew Finkelstein (Eli Roth), the latter suddenly makes a “joke” that Jocelyn contracted Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and is now expelling more blood than a “kid on Epstein Island.

For those who do not know the details of these crimes, we inform you that it was about a child after a rape. This ill-fated “joke” did not appeal to many viewers who now vent their frustration on the Internet. “Okay, the comment about Epstein’s island in the new episode of The Idol is too much for me. Let’s not kid about child trafficking.” I’ve ever heard on TV,” he tweeted.

What Happened on Epstein Island?

Jeffrey Epstein was convicted of a sex offender after prosecutors accused him of bringing dozens of underage children to his property to pay for sex. According to investigators, he recruited underage girls for sex and also gave them to millionaire friends who sexually abused them. It all took place on his private island, Little St. James in the Caribbean, which has been called “the island of paedophiles”. The multi-millionaire died at the end of 2019.

There were also other “jokes” or threads in the series that agitated the audience. One of the intimacy coordinators didn’t like how her profession was shown on the show. The Weeknd, on the other hand, is inundated with questions in interviews about whether Tedros’ character reflects his real character. The singer argues that the sex scenes are satire, and he personally does not resemble his hero. HBO itself also referred to unfavorable voices and announced that the decision to cancel the series after the first season is not true at the moment.
