Machaleño singer Michael Pantaleon marks 2023 as his triumphant return to music: “I’m not a reggaetonero, but you can evolve with a base of urban genre”

About 17 years ago, a young man Michael Pantaleon burst onto the music scene with his debut single give me a chance. He was 23 years old and more than ready to conquer the industry as a solo artist. With this melody he captivated various stages, such as the Buga Festival in Colombia, among others.

Music had always been his dream since he was a child and in his career he was even part of the return of musical group from Quito La Pandillaremembered for his success I’m crying. But in 2016, for personal reasons, he decided to move out of the country and with it his career had been put on hold indefinitely.

The tropical rhythm of Michael Pantaleon

“In 2016 I decided to take another course in my life, which was to stay in the USA and that’s where there was a pause. But I’ve always been making music, composing, I just haven’t been putting it on the air, and I haven’t been on stage”, says the artist through a Zoom interview.

“Last year, just talking with my family, with their support and with God’s, I decided to return with the song if you dress in white”. In November, Pantaleon released a reissue of this song, a marriage proposal made into a song, which has his characteristic label of Caribbean tropical pop, inspired by his favorites Fonseca and Lucas Arnau.

Pantaleon won festival

“I had recorded it at the same time as give me a chance, but I never promoted it, there was never a promotional campaign, nor did it appear on the radio. So I had to do a reissue of the song so that I can promote it now.”

Michael settled in Miami, where he has had the opportunity to work with the renowned Ecuadorian musician and producer Homero Gallardo, who is reaping success abroad. “He is a tremendous artist, he has played with Maluma and Nacho. He took the opportunity and accepted the invitation to be able to produce and record the song that we are going to promote after if you wear white”.

Since he started, until now, Michael notes that music has evolved rapidly and recognizes that urban genres are on the rise. And that will be reflected in his next production. “My next song will be a party”, he advances, implying that he has not been immune to the dominant rhythms of the moment. “What is coming is a surprise, and yes, the artist must evolve. I’m not a reggaeton player, I don’t rap. But you can make a musical evolution with a base of the urban genre and reggaeton”.

For this special launch, Michael Pantaleon plans to offer a media tour in Ecuador in March, making the official presentation of the song in his native country and being able to enjoy what he has missed the most in all these years: singing with the public.

How does the Michael Pantalón of 2006 differ from the one of now, the one of 2023? Wrinkles, jokes the singer. But in a more serious tone, he admits that he feels mature enough to face an artistic career, which has multiple nuances.

“I have been immersed in music since I was 8 years old and it was always a dream to be a musician and for people to listen and sing my songs. I started in 2006, but as all young people wanted everything to be fast, I wasn’t that patient. Being impatient led me to miss many opportunities, like on TV. I did not have the maturity to know how to carry it ”.

Now, he says, he returns with new stories, surely more personal, and, above all, with the unique impetus of being moved on stage with all the people who identify with his music and being able to appreciate having let go of the youthful anxieties of his past. (AND)
