Iñaki Añua, director of the Vitoria Jazz Festival for 40 years, dies

Just one day after the Vitoria-Gasteiz Jazz Festival began its forty-fifth edition, the family of Inaki Añuadirector of the event for 40 years, has announced his death at the age of 78.

Añua assumed the direction of the Jazz Festival of the capital of Alava in 1979, in its third edition, and guided the festival until 2018. Chick Corea and Bobby McFerrin, Pat Metheny, Dizzy Gillespie, Paco de Lucía , Herbie Hancock, Jaco Pastorius, Ella Fitzgerald and many, many other top artists.

Iñaki Añua also directed the Álava Early Music Week, played in the Baskonia first team, directed the Radio Vitoria jazz program for 40 years, received the Gold Medal from the city of Vitoria-Gasteiz in 2006 and Wynton Marsallis dedicated the movements “Iñaki’s decision” to him in his work Victoria Suite.
