Writer Domingo Villar dies at 51 after suffering a brain hemorrhage

The writer from Vigo Domingo Villar has died this Wednesday, May 18, after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage last Monday, as confirmed by the Siruela publishing house. Villar was admitted at dawn last Monday at the Álvaro Cunqueiro hospital in Vigo. Editorial sources have pointed out that there will be no burning chapel of the popular writer at the express wish of the family, who wishes to say goodbye to the author in the strictest privacy.

“Today, at the age of 51, Domingo Villar, our author, our dear friend and the protagonist of one of the great phenomena of detective novels in Spanish in recent years, who we were proud to accompany along the way, has passed away,” he says. la Siruela in a statement, where they express a heartfelt farewell: “Each and every one of us who make up the Siruela Editions team will miss you very much. Villar, according to the editorial, always had “several projects in hand, to which he devoted himself with great enthusiasm.” In the last few months he had finished a play and I was writing the fourth case of Leo Caldas. He was also preparing a television series starring the inspector and directed by the Coira brothers. And it is that Villar (1971) was one of the most recognized Galician writers thanks to the translation of his books into several languages, from the original versions in Galician and Spanish.

‘Ojos de agua’ was his first novel, published in 2006, followed by ‘La playa de los ahogados’. In both, Vigo has a leading role. Precisely, the black novel writer was one of the winners of the Distinguished Vigués award this year, thanks to his work, recognized throughout the world. Based in Madrid for almost 30 years, he liked to describe himself as “a cheerful pessimist” and as a “craftsman who tells stories slowly and talks about emotional characters”.
