The tie, a symbol of identity in the world of work

Fashion specialists maintain that in 2020 there was a decrease in tie sales due to the relaxed style that was adopted by virtual work and the informal dress of the new generations.

If you are a man and stopped wearing a tie during the home office, the return to face-to-face is the time to wear them again in the office or meetings that require a dress code, according to the trends of the haute couture fashion shows for autumn- winter 2022 – 2023.

Now, if you are a woman looking to set the tone with your style, renowned fashion catwalks such as Dior, Chanel and Prada have taken up the use of this garment, especially this year, in a more diverse market.

Denisse Távara, fashion designer and academic director of Las Artes Lima, comments that it was thought that the tie would go out of style after two years of the pandemic, but she is convinced that the opposite is true.

“The tie is not going to go out of style, on the contrary, the use of this accessory in men’s outfits has been reinvented and with a very strong trend in women’s outfits, because more than a symbol of elegance, it is one that generates identity” Tavara comments.

Usage across generations

Likewise, those who would be willing to resume its use are the young people of the millennial generation, who seek to stand out in the world of work with an elegant style.

“They will use wider ties in terms of shape, silk and woven ties, in lilac, pastel and saturated colors. Also with patterns and stripes, which will make them look cooler”, explains Zoila Castro, fashion and international marketing consultant.

In addition, there is a new generation of creatives who will seek to stand out with their own light style, but identifying themselves with the classic work style.

“On the other hand, the boys of generation Z have a fresher and more jovial style, facing for the first time the corporate work with bow-style ties, suspenders, long ties with cartoon prints and with geometry in baby blue and pale blue tones. pink”, details Denisse Távara.

In the case of women, the use of the tie in their clothing has to do with their identity and a very strong communication about equal opportunities.

“In women it generates a luxurious style. They use them with a midi dress or matching between garments, when you combine a pink blouse and a pink tie, it looks harmonic”, explains Castro.
