TGEN21, a textile enterprise created by mothers for their children with Down syndrome

Thinking about the future of their children with Down’s Syndromea group of 10 mothers partnered to create a venture with the long-term goal of becoming the source of employment for them. “We are a group of mommies who met in Fasinarm. We realized that we could not work for the care of our children, we took them to school, to speech and physical therapy. One day we met to look for a business so that when they grow up they can work independently and be autonomous people. Thus was born the idea of TGEN21″, says one of the entrepreneurs, alexandra rodriguez.

Although they had no experience in entrepreneurship or in the makingthe mothers integrated their knowledge into this great dream, such as sales, or graphic design by Alexandra, and thus they are taking the initiative forward.

The name of the business is a reference to the name of the disease. It refers to the trisomy 21the genetic disorder caused by the presence of a extra copy of chromosome 21. At the moment, the children of the entrepreneurial mothers are in the age range of 7 to 10 years.

“We are creating autonomous people, from their studies and therapies so that they can develop like any person in all capacities. Sometimes it is a little difficult for them to speak, which is why they need language therapy almost all their lives”, adds the graphic designer. Her son is Giovanni, 8 years old. He loves to play with the ball, paint and above all swim, so Alexandra aspires, if her son wants it too, he can participate in the Special Olympics when he is older.
