Halyna Hutchins’ family calls for crash videos to be removed

The family of Halyna Hutchins asked the authorities to withdraw from circulation the videos in which the director of photography appears in her last minutes of life after what alec baldwin accidentally shot him during the filming of rust.

Alec Baldwin rehearsed with a revolver whose bullet killed a cinematographer

In the letter, addressed to the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office (New Mexico, USA), the family’s attorney, Brian Panishask that yese respect the “constitutional rights of dignity, privacy, respect and ethics”.

Hutchins’ relatives made this request after the authorities released all the files (videos, photos, messages…) relevant to the investigation of the incident on Monday.

“We ask that your office remove the video of Halyna Hutchins dying on the floor,” requested the lawyer in the letter, released by local media this Thursday.

Likewise, the lawyer denounced that those responsible for the publication notified the husband of the deceased, Matthew Hutchins, the same day as the publication of the documents, without giving him just a few hours of margin to be able to consult them.

Due to the “sheer volume of material,” Panish noted, and the “totally inadequate amount of time,” the family had no opportunity to “request that discretion be exercised and sensitive material removed.”

Santa Fe Sheriff, Adam Mendoza, explained earlier this week that his office had agreed to release all of those files upon receiving a “public record request”, for the sake of granting a greater “transparency” to the work of researchers.

Among the documents is a video of Hutchins lying on the ground as emergency crews try to save her life through cameras worn on their uniforms.

The interrogations to which both Baldwin and the rest of the filming crew were subjected have also been published.

“While the damage caused by posting the video is irreparable, removing it will end your office’s complicity in causing further harm.” concluded the lawyer.

According to the Santa Fe First Judicial District Attorney’s Office, the investigation is still open and they are awaiting new reports from the sheriff’s office to review the evidence and make a decision on the criminal charge.

On April 20, the New Mexico Occupational Safety and Health Administration fined the production company of rust for more than 135,000 dollars for breach of security measures during filming. (I)
