How to properly maintain your vehicle

How to properly maintain your vehicle

Among some of the factors that are considered important to improve the conditions of the vehicle are the care of its engine and other fundamental parts such as the clutch, regular tire checks, knowledge of basic notions of revision and the relevance of adhering to the maintenance plans.

José Jaramillo, Business Director of Impoventura, representative of Volkswagen Automobiles and SUVs in Ecuador, provides below some recommendations to improve the performance of a vehicle.

Preventive checkups

This is the basis for the care of any vehicle. Owners must regularly take their car to the authorized workshop to comply with the maintenance plan and in accordance with the brand’s recommendation. In the case of Volkswagen, maintenance is carried out every 10,000 kilometers.

Change wear parts

There are elements that are essential to change in a vehicle to improve its performance and that depend on each manufacturer. To do this, in the authorized workshops of the brands, the service advisor will alert if the vehicle needs to change certain parts that wear out over time, including:

• Timing and Utility Belts – Failing or breaking, these two belts cause immediate damage that will mean costly repairs.

• Brake discs and pads: they are key elements as they provide safety. Its wear can be fast or slow and will depend on the use that the owner gives it.

• Shock absorbers: this part is usually affected when the car hits a pothole or hole very hard. Therefore, it is essential to check that it has not broken and in the case of damage, replace it, since it helps the stability of the vehicle and absorbs the imperfections of the road, which means comfort.

• Clutch: the useful life of this element will depend on the way the owner drives. For this reason, it is recommended that users do not keep their foot on the clutch pedal all the time, but only to make the change, nor should the vehicle be supported on climbs only with its use, it is preferable to brake and exit when necessary. A correctly used clutch can last between 80 and 120,000 kilometers.

take care of the engine

Being a machine in constant movement and friction, it suffers wear and tear over time, which is why it requires adequate maintenance. For its care, a regular change of the oil, the oil filter, timing belts, regular cleaning of injectors normally every 20,000 kilometers and spark plug changes if necessary should be carried out. In addition, it is very important that engine repairs or replacements be performed at authorized inspection sites for oil leaks or other problems.

Don’t neglect vehicle alignment

Whether during preventive maintenance or directly, it is necessary to perform tire alignment, balancing and rotation on a regular basis every 10,000 kilometers or if tires or suspension have been changed. This will allow the correct operation of the tires and will extend their useful life.

The interior is also important

The interior of a vehicle is an essential part of keeping it clean, comfortable and new. For this reason, Nissan interior and seating specialist Lugiana Pazarudin shares some tips:

weekly cleaning

If you use your vehicle regularly, it is recommended that you clean your leather seats every week, using a soft, damp towel or microfiber cloth. This will only take a few minutes, but it will help remove any dust or debris and keep the leather hydrated and looking new. For the selection of microfiber cloths, a mixture of polyester and polyamide 70/30 is recommended. The thickness makes it ideal for cleaning paint, glass, plastic and leather.

Get the right tools

For a deep clean of leather seats and panels, it is important to use a soft bristle brush or microfiber cloth. The reason is that these will clean the leather well, but will not damage the material. If the vehicle seats are beige, get microfiber cloths in lighter colors like white or cream to protect any dye that might transfer to the leather.

Condition the vehicle

Upholstery conditioning products add shine and maintain the beauty of vehicle seats after cleaning. It is always suggested to place the product in a

microfiber cloth, not directly on the seats. This will help distribute the product evenly. Then let it dry for ten minutes so that it settles well.

clean the screen

To clean the touch screen, we recommend using a soft, dry cloth. If additional cleaning is required, a small amount of neutral detergent such as mild soap can be used with a soft cloth. Never spray the screen directly with water or detergent. Moisten the cloth first and then clean the screen.

Protects!

The best time to start caring for your vehicle’s interior is when it’s new, so it can be kept looking that way for years to come. In addition, regular cleaning, maintenance and protection are the keys to optimal care.
