Will Smith decided to leave the Hollywood Academy, in charge of organizing the Oscars, by describing his performance at the 94th edition of these awards as “shocking, painful and inexcusable”reported the actor this Friday in a statement collected by the specialized media Variety.
“The list of people I’ve hurt is long and includes Chris (Rock), his family, many of my dear friends and loved ones, everyone in attendance and global audiences at home,” Smith said. I betrayed the trust of the Academy. I deprived other nominees and winners of the opportunity to celebrate and be celebrated for their extraordinary work. I’m heartbroken.’
The actor also acknowledged that slap Rock during the ceremony it caused other award winners to be overshadowed.
“I want to refocus on those who deserve attention for their achievements and allow the Academy to return to the incredible work it does to support creativity and artistry in film,” said Smith, 53.
