Netflix’s Top10 is ruled by Polish productions. Two films in the top three in the world ranking

“Furioza” is doing very well for another week in a row. The film with Mateusz Damięcki, the action of which takes place in the football community, is again at the top of the most-watched non-English language films in the world. In a comparison that takes into account the period between April 11 and 17 and also productions in English, Cyprian T. Olencki’s film loses only to the film “Between Life and Death” with Joey King.

“Furioza” once again in Netflix’s Top10, “The Taming of the Shrew” debuts

Another Polish title came third in the ranking (and second in non-English language films). It’s “The Taming of the Shrew” with Magdalena Lamparska and Mikołaj Roznerski.

The romantic comedy, which premiered on Netflix on April 13, tells the story of Kaśka, who throws her unfaithful boyfriend and returns to her hometown of Zakopane to start all over again. This sudden return, however, spoils her brother’s plans to sell their patrimony to a greedy businesswoman. The would-be partners decide to hire someone who will seduce Kaśka and convince her to change her mind. They are helped by the handsome Patryk, who has no money, but has debts for it and is ready to undertake any work. The boy begins to fall in love with Kaśka, so he is more and more inclined to break the relationship and reveal the truth.

Viewers don’t seem to be bothered by the unfavorable reviews. In Spider’s Web, Rafał Christ simply: “It’s a failure”. “The secondary plot goes hand in hand with the stereotypes and humor taken from the Sopot Cabaret Night” – he notes. “The Taming of the Shrew doesn’t look bad on paper” – Adam Siennica from Na Ekranie, but he quickly adds: It is all the more a pity that nothing works here in terms of production. ”

The movie “Furioza” has much better opinions. Many reviewers and viewers praise Damięcki, but not only. Jakub Demiańczuk in “Polityka”: “Cyprian Olencki’s film has expressive characters, a very solid cast (Łukasz Simlat is great as a relentless cop working on the gang) and a fairly consistent narrative”, giving 3/5 stars. “I was scared of this movie. Really, I was worried that we would get another Vegawersum-style work, like ‘Pitbull’ or ‘Mafia Women’. I thought – well, maybe I can smear this production. But it turns out it’s not that bad,” and our beloved Patryk Vega could learn from Cyprian Olencki. ‘Furioza’ is a really good production, but it needs a bit more experience “- Mikołaj Lipkowski from Movies Room.

Satisfied with the screening Christ: “This film is real testosterone and adrenaline, which the director throws at the audience and detonates with a smile on his face. He shows no mercy to the viewers, but we will not ask for it in any scene. There is no place in this production. for even a bit of weakness. It must be harder, denser and more with every moment. It is a constant pounding of our murder. So you leave the cinema battered, but happy “.

Both the two places in the top three in the world, as well as the first two places in the list of the most popular non-English language films in the world, is something that has never happened to Polish titles.

It is worth noting, however, that “Between Life and Death” was watched for longer than both Polish productions combined. According to Netflix’s data, a story about a girl who seems to be communicating with her from behind the grave of a tragically deceased boy, last week’s users watched 35.9 million hours. They spent 17.8 million hours on “Furioza”, and 17.02 million hours on “The Taming of the Shrew”.
