ABAO Bilbao Opera will premiere at the end of this month “Alzira”the eighth opera composed by Giuseppe Verdi and one of the few European lyrical works dedicated to the American continent, to conclude the titanic Tutto Verdi project.
Started in 2006, the Tutto Verdi project has brought to the Bilbao scene 30 titles from the Verdi catalogue, series of conferences, recordings and publications, in a cultural program that has lasted 16 years.
Planned in the 2020 programming, “Alzira” had to be postponed due to the pandemic. This time four functions will be offered on the days April 23, 25, 27 and 30 in the Euskalduna Bilbao Palace. Performances will begin at 7:00 p.m. on two Saturdays and at 7:30 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday.
“Alzira” is a lyrical tragedy with a prologue and two acts with a libretto by Salvatore Cammarano, based on the drama “Alzire, ou les Américains” by Voltaire.
