El Fant will honor Nicholas Meyer and Esteban Ibarretxe

The twenty-eighth edition of Fant, Bilbao’s fantastic film festival, will deliver its star award to North American director Nicholas Meyer and will pay tribute to Bilbao-born director Esteban Ibarretxe, who died in January, through the screening of his film “You Only Die Twice “.

The festival will be held from May 6 to 14 with a total of 47 sessions, will bring back its international guests and will host the international premiere of “Virus 32”.

On Friday, May 6, the opening gala will take place at the Campos Eliseos theater, where the feature film “Virus-32” by Uruguayan Gustavo Hernández will be premiered internationally.

A week later, on Friday, May 13, the Fant closing gala will be held at the BBK Hall, where the Fantastic Star award will be presented, which on this occasion will go to Nicholas Meyer, the American director of films such as “Star Trek II – The wrath of Khan” or “The day after”. The night will close with a screening of the classic “Nosferatu”, which turns one hundred years old.

In addition to this award, FANT will also present the Fantrobia award that recognizes an emerging figure within the genre. In this edition, it will go to the Welsh director and screenwriter, Prano Bailey-Brand.

The Fant de Honor Award will be given to the veterans Bego Vicario and Patxi Azpillaga, for their work promoting new talent in cinema from the UPV/EHU, and to the actress Macarena Gómez, for her career as an actress in horror films and fantastic.
