After nine decades of ceremonies of the Academy Awardsthe most Oscars won by a film it’s still 11.

That long-standing record is shared by three iconic films in the film industry: The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003), titanica (1997) and BenHur (1959).

Of course, the chances of obtaining a greater number of statuettes have come hand in hand with a greater number of nominations. In the case of the third installment of The Lord of the rings was undefeated at the Oscars, winning the 11 nominations for which he competed in that year.

The plot, which centers on Gandalf and Aragorn leading the World of Men against Sauron’s army, took home trophies for picture, director (Peter Jackson), adapted screenplay, art direction, costume design, film editing, makeup, score, song (into the west), sound mixing and visual effects.

just six years before, titanica won 11 of its 14 nominations, claiming wins for picture, director (james cameron), cinematography, art direction, costume design, film editing, score, song (My heart will go on), sound, sound editing and visual effects.

The first film to win 11 Oscars, out of 12, was Ben Huran epic drama about a Jewish prince who, after being betrayed and sent into slavery by a Roman friend, regains his freedom and returns for revenge.

The remake current of steven spielberg could be singing a similar victory at the 2022 ceremony this Sunday, March 27, only if it swept the 7 candidates in dispute (film, director, supporting actress, sound, photography, production and costumes).

Three more films, on the other hand, were awarded nine statuettes each: The English Patient (nineteen ninety six), The last Emperor (1987) and Gigi (1958).

And finally eight films went home with eight trophies each: Slumdog Millionaire (2008), Amadeus (1984), gandhi (1982), Cabaret (1972), my fair lady (1964), On the sea trip (1954), From here to eternity (1953) and gone With the Wind (1939).
