Their “Kyiv Calling” is a cover of the title track from the third album The Clash, which was released in 1979. The lyrics of the song were inspired by the nuclear reactor accident on Three Mile Island, Pennsylvania, but it criticizes the political situation in Great Britain in the 1970s. which means “It’s London”.
The video includes images of Ukraine being destroyed by Russian aggression. Musicians sing, among others “Kyiv is calling the whole world, don’t stay neutral, boys and girls”, “we don’t have planes, so close our skies and block the pain rockets.” They also turn to NATO (“we can’t make it by ourselves”) and emphasize that “Kyiv is rising”.

The recording and cover of “Kyiv Calling” was made in a few days, and it was initiated by an activist of the Ukrainian resistance movement. “We all had three days for it. Unexpectedly, everything was easy and effortless, the team of producers and PR people from England accepted the cover without any problems, the musicians from The Clash blessed us. And we started our work” – recall the Betonu musicians on Instagram, stating link to the collection.
