M³ynarski’s “War is Never Far” in the new version. “For all those escaping and helping”

The song “War never is far” and the circumstances of its publication strikingly emphasize that war, no matter where it takes place, means death, suffering and wandering. Refugees experience the same on the border with Belarus as on the border with Ukraine.

They sound, among others words of the chorus:

Like the painful glass under the eyelid hurting a sharp pupil –

war is never far away, war is always very close.

– It seemed very important to us to involve various artistic circles in joint initiatives with a large media coverage, which will help draw public attention to the problem of deportations to Belarus of people who seek refuge in Poland from war and persecution – say the activists of the Granica Group, a social movement associating non-governmental organizations opposing the government’s response to the events taking place on the Polish-Belarusian border.

This is how a new performance of Wojciech Młynarski’s piece “War never far away” was created. – We want the words of the piece, so current now, to be heard loudly, to tell about the drama that is happening so close to us, to unite those who fall into a feeling of helplessness and discouragement – explain the activists.

The musical arrangement was undertaken by Jurek Zagórski together with Pat Stawiński, Aleksander Orłowski and Andrzej Smolik. You can hear voices of Polish artists in the piece. These are: Kasia Lins, Gaba Kulka, Misia Furtak, Paula Roma, Natalia Grosiak and Kasai (Kasia Piszek).

A music video was created for the song, directed by Jagoda Szelc. – The picture was supposed to correspond to the figure of the meeting with the unimaginable – the quick change that can actually take place in the reality of each of us without our participation. In a very short time, the world around us can change beyond recognition. Just like it has changed since we started our work until today, when the Polish border was crossed by a million refugees from war-torn Ukraine – says the director.

The piece is dedicated to all people fleeing the war and persecution, residents of the borderland, activists and activists, organizations and every person who notices injustice on the Polish border, reacts to it with discord and striving for change. For all those escaping and helping – regardless of the origin and color of the skin.
