The beginning of the Chinese year is mostly lost to the beginning of February, but it is a moveable date. Compared to the western horoscope, the eastern zodiac signs fall on a specific lunar year, not our birth month.

Chinese zodiac signs: there are 12 of them

There is a legend in China about the Jade Emperor who wanted to find guards for his palace. Apparently, twelve different animals stood up to fight for this name, symbolizing various virtues. It was from these animals that their zodiac signs were formed. According to Chinese culture, these were:

• tiger – stubbornness and vigor
• rabbit – prudence and stability
• dragon – steadfastness and strength
• snake – mystery and flexibility

Contrary to the western horoscope, which is the one most of us use, the eastern zodiac signs fall on a specific lunar year. This is a completely separate way of assigning signs, because in the Western horoscope the day and month of birth do not matter in the year.
