Curtains, especially white ones, are an obligatory element of a flat or house decor. Especially for Easter, we want them to be perfectly white. However, it happens that they change color, and it’s not prettier. What to do with curtains that have turned gray or yellow? They can be whitened with e.g. baking soda. If you don’t have soda, there are other ways too.

What to whiten curtains for Easter 2022? List of proven ways

It is not necessary to buy expensive detergents to whiten the curtains. You can safely use what we have at home and what is cheap. That’s what our mothers and grandmothers did. Here is a list of traditional and effective ways to whiten curtains:

• baking soda – how to bleach with baking soda? Make a solution (50 grams of baking soda to 1 liter of water) and soak the curtains in it for several hours. Then wash as usual. Instead, you can also put baking soda in the washing machine. This is a faster way, and you will also get a softening effect on the fabrics.
• baking powder – to make the curtains white again, you first need to soak them (about a quarter of an hour) in a solution of baking powder and water. The proportion of the solution is one packet of baking powder for 5 liters of water. After soaking, wash in the washing machine with powder / gel for white fabrics,
• aspirin – works similar to baking powder. Crush 5 tablets and mix with water. Soak the curtains in this mixture, then just wash them
• salt – make a solution of 4 tablespoons of table salt and 10 liters of water. Soak the curtains in this mixture for a few hours, then rinse and hang on a curtain rod to dry. This method is ideal for synthetic fiber curtains. In addition, the curtain will be stiffer and more resistant to static electricity,
• vinegar – the proportion of the bleaching mixture is half a glass of vinegar to 10 liters of water. The rest of the procedure is the same as for table salt,
• lemon juice – add lemon juice directly to the laundry. Hang the curtain in the sun for a better effect. Interestingly, lemon juice also removes the smell of tobacco smoke,
• flour – this tip is for cleaning curtains with oily stains. Sprinkle this stain with a little flour so that it absorbs the fat. Then wash as normal in the washing machine with some washing-up liquid
• ammonia – make a mixture of water with ammonia (1 teaspoon of ammonia per 1 liter of water), soak the curtains in it and wash with a detergent for white fabrics,
• egg shells – this is one of the oldest ways to make white curtains. Place the eggshells in a linen bag and put them in the washing machine with curtains and washing powder,
• domestos – soak the curtains in water with a little domestos. Then wash in the washing machine, but WITHOUT washing powder. Domestos foam is easily enough for washing.

As you can see, there are many ways to whiten curtains for Easter 2022. Which one to choose is up to you and what you currently have available around you. Still, the best way to get white curtains is to take care of them on a regular basis, i.e. when stored.

How to store unused curtains so that they do not turn gray / yellow? Here are some tips:

• protect them from sunlight,
• if you can, wrap them in blue paper.
