The Museum of Popular Music Julio Jaramillo aims to create ties with the citizenry, as stated by its current boss, David Faggioni. “We align ourselves towards the purpose of bringing art closer to citizens, of working in unconventional spaces with musical activations, with the purpose of making art and culture very accessible to Guayaquil residents. That is to say, to leave aside the traditional methods”, says the boss, who enters instead of Danushe Aneshka Hlavenka Icaza.
He maintains that the institution will continue to promote the Ecuadorian corridor. Among the first projects that have been proposed to fulfill this mission is the production of a musical album with young singer-songwriters. “We want to launch in July”, he reveals, to present a gala concert in October.
To this is added the formation of an ensemble with graduates of the Nicasio Safadi Hall School. “We want to promote the artistic careers of our graduates (…). We are going to prepare a catalog with the purpose of placing it in public and private institutions, so that they can be an option for contracting artists”Explain.
They also intend to create the first Ecuadorian Hall of Fame Walk of Fame, which will be open to the participation of citizens, who will be able to apply for their ideal reference. “We want it to be a job with citizen participation, that is, we are going to open the possibility for citizens to apply to those who they consider deserve to be on this Walk of Fame, which is going to be an emblematic and tourist site for the city”Faggioni details.
For this, a selection committee will be formed that will study the applications one by one. “We are going to establish characteristics within the trajectory that determine the importance of their participation in this construction process of what is the Ecuadorian corridor”he points out.
On the other hand, it announces that the Nicasio Safadi Corridor School will be transferred to the Urbina Housein the sector of Las Peñas. “We believe in the transcendent impact that artistic training has on the new generations and what that represents at a social level.”, he says, and indicates that the project has already been approved by the Guayaquil Mayor’s Office and studied by the Guayaquil Siglo XXI Foundation, to make the adaptation of the space. He explains that the purpose of the move is to find more space for the school, and mentions that the change will take place during the course of this year.
will keep the traditional National Competition for Young Composers of the Corridor; but two more competitions will also be added: one for young performers (soloists, duos or groups) and another for children, called “Be our museum guide”.
Since the departure of the historian and writer Jenny Estrada, on September 23, 2019, the Music Museum has been in charge of three chiefs in different periods: Gabriel Castro, Omar Domínguez and Danushe Hlavenka. Does this not affect the management of the historical and cultural space? “The transitions do not bring a greater impact, because structurally a great project is already being worked on with a clear and precise vision from the Directorate of Culture”replies Faggioni.
‘Music has been part of my life’
David Faggioni (38 years old) confesses that he feels happy to rediscover music more closely. “Music has been part of my life, in fact, it is what linked me to art since I was a child”expresses the Guayaquil native, who was trained in the Antonio Neumane Conservatory and in the Sergei Rachmaninoff Conservatoryinstitution in which he taught classical and popular guitar.
He is a producer of music and artistic shows, a musical composer and was also a performer. “They are somewhat hidden facets. They identify me more for the cultural management that I have carried out for years”says Faggioni, who until 2021 was director of Marketing at the Teatro Centro de Arte. (I)
