The war in Ukraine. Outrageous words from a famous pianist: Can’t we just stop being concerned about them?

Bierezowski was a guest on Channel1 on March 10, but now material with his statements has started circulating in the foreign media.

Boris Bierezowski on Kiev: We cannot circle them and cut off access to electricity?

The pianist said, inter alia, to the second guest, a representative of the military:

I have this, maybe naive question … I understand that we regret them, we are very delicate, but can’t we just stop worrying about them, circle them and cut off access to electricity?

The man in uniform replied that they could not cause a humanitarian disaster. You can see this exchange of views from 8:01 on the following material:

In 1990, Bierezowski won one of the most prestigious piano competitions in the world, the Pyotr Tchaikovsky. He collaborated, among others with the New York Philharmonic, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Berliner Philharmoniker. A year ago, two of his children were supposed to be arrested during anti-government protests in Moscow, but – like some – were unexpectedly released from custody.

Bierezowski apologizes through his agent

“As I often say, I am only an artist and a humanist. I read the reactions to my appearance on the talk show ‘Vremjia Pokajet’. I have formulated my opinion in recent weeks by consulting with American and Western political scientists, explaining to many that the West is also responsible for the current dramatic situation. It does not mean that I tolerate this war or any war “- the pianist begins his statement:

My undoubtedly naive intention to participate in this performance was to come up with possible solutions so that this current drama would end as soon as possible. When I asked about the possibility of a power cut, my intention was to avoid bombing Kyiv and thus avoid an even more dramatic humanitarian catastrophe. But I was interrupted before I had time to finish.

Bierezowski announced that he would not comment on non-musical topics from now on. French music journalist Alain Lompech, who received the statement, emphasizes that he did not get it directly from Bierezowski, but from his French agent.

“I cannot believe the statement of my former friend Boris B. I hear these words literally from his lips. This is the end of our friendship” – commented the Russian’s earlier words on Twitter, pianist and conductor Lars Vogt, music director of the Paris Chamber Orchestra.
