Who can get 500 plus for seniors? It turns out that not only seniors
From 2019, they can apply for the benefit, which is commonly known as 500 plus for seniors
- is over 18 years of age and
- is incapable of independent existence and
- is not entitled to a cash benefit financed from public funds (e.g. pensions, disability pensions, etc.), or is entitled to these benefits, but their total gross amount does not exceed PLN 1,896.13, and
- has Polish citizenship, the right of residence or the right of permanent residence in Poland, if he is a citizen of one of the Member States of the European Union or the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) – a party to the agreement on the European Economic Area or the Swiss Confederation, or has a legalized stay in Poland, and
- lives in Poland
500 plus for seniors aged 75 and over
An additional PLN 500 may also be given to people who have reached the age of 75 and are receiving care allowance. However, the application should be accompanied by medical documentation and any other documents confirming the given health condition. Then, such a senior will be referred for an examination to a ZUS certifying physician.
New 500 plus income threshold for seniors
From March 1, 2022, the maximum income threshold for people receiving 500 plus for seniors was increased to PLN 1,896.13. Until now, this benefit could be applied for by people who, apart from the incapacity for independent existence, were not entitled to the benefit financed from public funds or their total amount did not exceed a maximum of PLN 1,772.08 gross. However, they did not receive the full amount of PLN 500. If their income exceeded PLN 1,272.08, the amount of the benefit was reduced in accordance with the PLN per PLN principle.
