Oscars – when the first ceremony of presenting the prestigious film award took place

The first ceremony of awarding these statuettes took place 93 years ago – on May 16, 1929. The ceremony, held at the Roosevelt Hotel in Los Angeles, lasted only fifteen minutes. Oscar statuette – who does it represent?
The Oscar statuette is a prize awarded during a ceremonial ceremony organized by the American Film Academy. Who is represented by the characteristic golden statue? The statuette, almost 35 cm high and weighing about 4 kg, is made of metal alloys: tin, copper and antimony. Its attractive appearance is due to the fact that it has been covered with 24-carat gold. The statuette owes its appearance to Cedrick Gibbons, who in 1931 designed the famous award. The statuette shows a knight – a crusader with a sword. The character stands on a roll of film with five spokes. In 1939, the golden statuette began to be officially called “Oscar”.

Soon there will be a gala during which this year’s will be given. The 94th American Film Academy Awards ceremony will take place later this month, on the night of March 27-28 in Los Angeles, California, and more precisely at the Dolby Theater.

One of the most important events in the movie world is the annual gala where the best productions are awarded.
