On October 21, 2021, the 42-year-old filmmaker was shot to death at her workplace in New Mexico. Baldwin was holding the gun that fired from her, striking her and director Joel Souza, who survived.
Baldwin’s legal team has said, in a series of proceedings against the film’s other producers, that the 63-year-old actor tried to get production going and completed in the weeks that followed Hutchins’ death.according to documentation obtained by the newspaper New York Times this March 11. Her plan was to support her husband, Matthew Hutchins, and the couple’s 9-year-old son through earnings and life insurance.
These files arise after Baldwin was sued by Matthew in February for Halyna’s death. There are still several other lawsuits against the film’s producers for trying to ‘cut corners’ and neglecting safety during filming.

Matthew’s lawsuit says Baldwin and the other defendants in the case failed to perform industry-standard checks and follow basic gun safety rules by using real guns to produce.
