Joaquin Phoenix as Napoleon Bonaparte in the first pictures of the Kitbag set. Similar?

Ridley Scott knows full well that Joaquin Phoenix is good for power. The gentlemen previously met on the set of “Gladiator”, where Phoenix played the Roman emperor Commodus. Now the journey back in time, which the creators will give us, will be much less distant. Kitbag will take viewers to the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries, when one name was carried all over Europe (and not only): Napoleon.

Joaquin Phoenix dressed up as Napoleon. “He wasn’t so handsome yet”

On Thursday, to the delight of Joaquin Phoenix’s fans, the first photos from the film set appeared on the Internet. The actor wears full 18th century military regalia, complete with an unmissable hat. Twitter users were delighted – they wrote, among others: “How did it happen that Joaquin has never been so handsome ?!”.

Kitbag is meant to be “an original and intimate look at Napoleon’s rapid ascent up the ladder of power to the emperor’s position, through the prism of his addictive and often unstable relationship with his wife and true love, Josephine.” The title of the production was taken from Napoleon’s saying “There is a general’s staff hidden in every soldier’s kitbag”. The filmmakers want to capture “Napoleon’s famous battles, along with the relentless ambition and astonishing strategic mind of an extraordinary military leader and war visionary.”

Originally, Jodie Comer was to play Józefina, but due to other career plans, the actress had to give up the project. In early January, Deadline announced that Napoleon’s beloved will be played by Vanessa Kirby, who last year received an Oscar nomination for her role in “Particles of a Woman”. At the moment it is also known that Tahar Rahim will perform as Paul Barras in “Kitbag”.

The script was written by Scott’s colleague David Scarpa (“All the Money in the World”). Scott and Kevin Walsh are producing the film. Kitbag will hit Apple TV + next year.
