Ołena Zelenska, the first lady of Ukraine, contacted representatives of the world’s media via Instagram, publishing a moving letter there, which was her response to numerous requests for interviews that had been sent to her recently. “Recently, a large number of media outlets from around the world have asked for interviews. This letter is my response to these requests and is my testimony from Ukraine,” she explained, describing the harsh reality in which the citizens of her country lived.
Olena Zelenska: “At this moment there are several dozen children who have never known peace in their lives”
“What happened just over a week ago was unbelievable. Our country was peaceful; our cities, towns and villages were full of life,” describes Zelenska, referring to the moment when Russia began invading Ukraine. She stressed that, contrary to Russian propaganda, which calls the war a “special operation”, Russian troops are committing “mass murders of Ukrainian civilians”.
She also once again drew attention to the dramatic situation in which the children found themselves. “Perhaps the most terrifying and devastating in this invasion are the victims of the children. Eight-year-old Alice, who died in the streets of Ochtyrka when her grandfather tried to protect her. Or Polina from Kiev, who died in shelling along with her parents. 14-year-old Arseniy was struck in head through the wreck and it was not possible to save him, because the ambulance could not reach him on time due to intense fires. When Russia says that it “is not at war with civilians,” I first call out the names of those murdered children “- she mentioned.
She also stressed that the lives of Ukrainian citizens have now moved to the shelters, and the scary photos we can find on the web are their reality. “The first newborn of the war saw the concrete ceiling of the basement, his first breath was the tart air of the underground and they were greeted by the imprisoned and terrorized community. At this point, there are several dozen children who have never known peace in their lives” – continued the touching letter.
“I appeal to you, dear media: keep showing what is happening here and keep showing the truth. In the information war waged by the Russian Federation, every piece of evidence is crucial” – she appealed.
“With this letter I testify and tell the world: the war in Ukraine is not a war” out there “. It is a war in Europe, close to the borders of the Union. If we do not stop Putin, who is threatening a nuclear war, there will be no safe place on earth for any of us” – she stressed. “We will win. Thanks to our unity. Glory to Ukraine” – concluded Zelenska.
