By decision of the European Commission: some anti-dandruff shampoos have disappeared from the shelves

A few days ago, an important decision came into force. This was due to a decision of the European Commission, which in October 2021 recognized both these substances as carcinogenic, mutagenic or toxic to reproduction.

Dangerous lilial: cosmetics with it in the composition were withdrawn from stores

Lilial is a synthetic aromatic aldehyde found in aromas and fragrance compositions. On the cosmetics in which it appears, we could look for it under the names Butylphenyl Methylpropional, p-BMHCA, 2- (4-tert-butylbenzyl) propionic aldehyde or Lily Aldehyde. It gives the products a strong floral aroma reminiscent of cyclamen or lily of the valley. It was used in perfumes, care cosmetics, but also in home chemicals. Due to the classification as a substance with adverse effects on reproduction, it was withdrawn and banned.

Anti-dandruff shampoos containing zinc pyrithione have been discontinued

Until now, zinc pyrithione has often been used in anti-dandruff shampoos. This substance has been raising safety concerns for some time, but for its sake, it has so far been approved for use in rinse-off preparations for hair care. The zinc pyrithione content could not, however, exceed 1%. From March 1, however, it can no longer be added to the above-mentioned anti-dandruff shampoos and other similar shampoos.
