Will Smith is set to reprise one of his signature roles. The actor will star in a sequel to I’m legend (I am legend), his famous 2007 post-apocalyptic film. black panther star Michael B Jordan will also have a lead role in the feature film, which will be written by the original film’s co-writer, Akiva Goldsman, for Warner Bros.
There has been talk of a sequel for a long time. I’m legendwith a version of the project discussed since 2012. Plot details, of course, are being kept under wraps.
Goldsman and Mark Protosevich co-wrote the original screenplay, which was directed by Francis Lawrence and was praised for lending an air of intimacy to that blockbusteras well as for his images of barren urban landscapes.
The film grossed $585 million worldwide and ended with the death of Smith’s character.a scientist trying to find a cure for a plague that has killed most of humanity and turned the survivors into monstrous creatures. On that note, it’s unclear how Smith could return for the sequel.
Jordan is producing the sequel to I’m legend along with Elizabeth Raposo through her company Outlier Society. Smith will instead produce through his Westbrook Studios venture with Jon Mone. Goldsman, who produced the original film, will also return to produce with Greg Lessans through Weed Road Pictures.
I’m legendbased on Richard Matheson’s 1954 novel, has long been one of Smith’s proudest achievements as an actor thanks to his solo scenes. For most of the movie, he had nothing to act against except mannequins and a dog.
“I’m obsessed with trying to put little dramas in between big blockbusters. … The most successful thing I’ve had with that concept is I’m legend,” Smith said in 2015. “It could easily have been a play, right? You know, a one man show, a guy with a dog; You’d usually think you need a little more than that for a blockbuster, but to date, that’s my biggest opening and my second biggest movie.”
Smith is in the running for Oscars for his work on king richardrecently won a SAG award. Jordan is preparing to star and direct Creed III.
