Acorte Rewards Errata Hunters 2021; Guillermo Lasso’s letter earns an honorable mention

Tonight the Association of Text Correctors of Ecuador announced the winners of the seventh edition of the contest Errata hunt 2021, The purpose of which is to identify spelling errors in business or communication advertisements published on the web.

Three winners and an honorable mention were recognized, out of a total 81 photos or screenshots who participated in this contest that takes place on the International Day of the Copyeditor, which is remembered every October 27.

The first place went to a publication made by a library in the country in which they shared a literary recommendation, but with a serious error in its description: “You have noticed”, instead of “You have noticed” with s; and you know why?, when the correct thing is you know why?. This bug was hunted by Carolina loor, who expressed being very surprised by the first place.

The second place was taken Allison bonilla, who identified a series of errors in an advertisement for a fast food chain. “I really like reading and spelling … I didn’t think the way to advertise the food was very correct”, expressed the winner in the live broadcast.

Third place went to a banner published by a print media outlet, hunted by Astrid Solano. In the communicative announcement he made reference to the Pedro Delgado case in which he said: “The party does not end for Pedro Delgado. Migration experts recommend your extradiction”, when the right thing is “extradition”, with a single letter c.

Meanwhile, the honorable mention went to Jose Menendez, who in a letter from the President of the Republic, Guillermo Lasso, underlined some misspellings, one of them was “sucitar”, when the right thing is “Stir up”.

The award ceremony was broadcast live on Acorte’s Facebook page, and was attended by Susana Cordero, director of the Ecuadorian Academy of the Language, who shared a text that spoke about feminism in the Spanish language. “As stated by the great academic Don Ignacio Bosque, the editors of the guides in favor of the use of the o / a, del @, de todes, instead of all, seem to think that the linguistic system is a kind of civil code or traffic code, and not that its history is that of a living organism and what they propose can be just as absurd, that complaining about the sun being masculine and the moon feminine, and not the other way around as it happens in the German language ”, express.
