Yela Loffredo de Klein (1920-2020), the “mother of artists”, once again took over the corners of a museum or temple, as she called them. A selection of her work is exhibited at the Municipal Museum of Guayaquil, allowing to highlight his memory, which was felt like a gentle breeze at yesterday’s inauguration.

With the intention of paying homage to her, a sculptural exhibition is presented that brings together in one place her Hello bronze, his Venus of Valdiviahis Teenhis Sleeping and of course their Sumpa Lovers. From torsos and contoured curves to “plus” bodies, which Yela’s hands left petrified in a sculpture, are part of this exhibition that will be open to the public until April 2.

The show also features a Inca mask seriesof bronze, which were made by Mom Yela. In total, thirty-eight sculptures are exhibited, made using the techniques of marble with patina, aluminum, resin, translucent acrylic, stone, bronze and others.

A large group of young people and people who knew the artist in life gathered at the opening. Among those present who presided over the inauguration was Rose Amelia Alvarado, who referred to her as a Guayaquil native at heart and a woman who never stopped creating. She took advantage of the moment to make a special request to the Mayor’s Office of Guayaquil.

This museum still preserves the soul of Yela. We ask that the Municipal Museum of her bear the name of Yela Loffredo, in tribute and recognition to her. It would be the way to return all the love that she gave to the city”, Alvarado said.

On this proposal, the councilor Luzmila Nicolalde He said on behalf of the Mayor’s Office that he will promote the request for the museum to bear his name. He also announced that the Yela Loffredo monument will soon be inaugurated in Las Peñas, a work that was executed by Helen Steady, current Director of Culture of the Municipality of Guayaquil, who was also present at the event.

The city will hardly forget the management that Yela did in the city. He brought together great artists in Las Peñas… Guayaquil owes him a lot”, the councilwoman said.

Today this Directorate, and regarding the celebration of Women’s Day, we want to honor the memory of Yela with these works that have been kindly loaned by her family”, delimited by his Constant side.

Finally, a posthumous award was given to the artist, which was received by her daughter Paulette Kleinwho along with his sister Denise they cut the ribbon to inaugurate the exhibition.

The exhibition will be open in the Museum’s Contemporary Art Room, from Tuesday to Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., until April 2. Free entrance. (I)
