Sean Penn manages to flee Ukraine on foot across the Polish border

Sean Penn, American actor and director, has traveled to the Ukraine to film a documentary about the invasion that the country suffers from the russian troops since last February 24. In his journey, he has finished joining the exodus of refugees who have left the country on foot across the border with Poland.

The actor visited Kiev a week ago, where was able to attend the press conference that the Ukrainian president, Volodimir Zelensky, offered on the first day of the invasion, at the beginning of the outbreak of the war.

A few days later, Penn shared a photograph on his social networks in which he was seen carrying a backpack and a suitcase “walking to the Polish border”. He and his team made that decision after leaving the car they were traveling in on the highway, where thousands of cars formed a caravan to leave the country.

“Almost all the cars in this photo are only carrying women and children, most without luggage, and the car is their only valuable possession,” the actor explained.

Since then, Penn had not said anything again on his social networks, until now. It has been his representative, Mara Buxbaum, who has confirmed to Reuters that the actor is “safe and sound” outside Ukraine.

During his trip to Ukraine, the director had the opportunity to interview Ukrainian political figures, as well as military personnel and journalists, to make a documentary, a “show of bravery and honesty” which they thanked from the Ukrainian Presidency.

As reported on its Facebook page by the office of the Ukrainian Presidency, “the director came to Kiev specifically to record all events taking place in Ukraine as a documentary filmmaker and to tell the world the truth about Russia’s invasion of our country.”

“Today, Sean Penn is among those who support Ukraine in Ukraine. Our country thanks him for such a show of courage and honesty,” the official statement added.

For his part, the actor wrote about the difficult situation the country is experiencing. “It’s already a brutal mistake of lives taken and hearts broken, and if you don’t give in, I think that Putin will have made the most horrible mistake for all humanity. President Zelenski and the Ukrainian people have risen as historical symbols of courage and principles,” he pointed out on his networks, showing his support for the country.
