The writer and translator Look Agur Meabe has been named Euskaltzaindia’s full academician, after the vote that took place this Friday at the February plenary session, held at the Palacio Foral de Gipuzkoa, in San Sebastián.
Meabe thus covers the vacancy declared in October 2021, where Xabier Kintana, also from Biscay, became an emeritus academic, having turned 75, as specified by Euskaltzaindia.
The new academic of number of the Academy accedes to his position by absolute majority, as established by the Regulations of Euskaltzaindia. Now, she has a period of eight months to prepare her entrance speech, and that same period is given to the academician or academician who will respond to this speech. In this public meeting, after the entrance speech, the main act will take place.
Today, Euskaltzaindia is made up of 24 male and female academics, plus emeritus, honorary members and the corresponding -urgazleak-.
After the new additions, the table of number academics is made up of Andrés Urrutia, Sagrario Aleman, Adolfo Arejita, Xarles Videgain, Paskual Rekalde, Aurelia Arkotxa, Miren Azkarate, Jean-Baptiste Coyos, Patxi Goenaga, Jose Irazu ‘Bernardo Atxaga’, Jabier Kaltzakorta, Joseba Andoni Lakarra, Beñat Oihartzabal, Miren Lourdes Oñederra, Miren Agur Meabe, Andoni Sagarna, Patxi Salaberri, Pello Salaburu, Alfontso Mujika, Ana M. Toledo, Patxi Zabaleta, Mikel Zalbide, Miriam Urkia and Roberto Gonzalez de Viñaspre.
For its part, the list of emeritus academics is made up of Jean-Louis Davant, Txomin Peillen, Jose Luis Lizundia, Patxi Uribarren, Andres Iñigo, Ibon Sarasola and Xabier Kintana.
