Guayaquil, I sing to you the theme that the Argentinean Nerio David Pérez He gives away to the city that has been his home for years.

“As a foreign foreigner who sing to this city of Guayaquil, it seemed very special to me that I did it with things that are very my own, very personal. So what else is mine than an Argentine folk rhythm to say what I feel about the city. That gratitude for having received me, that gratitude also with God, because here I made my family … “, says Pérez.

He affirms that he owed a song to Guayaquil, that is why he keeps some poems that he had already been writing for the city. Since that feeling was still latent, he began to build this piece with guitar in hand. “It is a cantata, because it has parts that are spoken, musical and sung parts”, refers.

The artist explains that this symphonic version arose from the inspiration of the maestro Manuel Campos, who after hearing him sing in a show she surprised him with an arrangement she had come up with for the subject. “I loved the idea, and there all this was born”Says Pérez.

“The song made a big impact on me. I was at the Nerio concert, and I left with the idea in mind that it was a great song that could be done in a bigger way with an orchestra “, says Campos, director of the Youth Symphony Orchestra ‘José Joaquín de Olmedo’.

Both consider that with Guayaquil, I sing to you citizens are being given a light of hope in the midst of the wave of insecurity that is being experienced. “What we are doing with this song is giving a new breath to the city”, Expresses Campos.

In the same way, he mentions that it is an opportunity to highlight the importance of artistic programs aimed at young people, since the ‘José Joaquín de Olmedo’ Youth Symphony was born as a result of the dissolution of the Youth Symphony Orchestra of the Guayas Prefecture.

“What this type of programs with the orchestra does is prevent future actions of young people, because as long as we keep them busy, as long as they have that free time occupied with positive things, it will be difficult for them to fall into crime or drugs”, defends the orchestral conductor.
