The shocking documentary “Playboy Secrets”, which revealed the dark secrets of Hugh Hefner, is still echoing, thus ruining the facade of the modern and liberated businessman who was believed to be the publisher of the cult magazine. Years later, his associates decided to honestly tell about the dark side of the editor-in-chief of “Playboy”, and every now and then surprising facts from his life come to light.
One of Hefner’s close employees decided to recall the tragic story of Dorothy Stratten, noting her connections with the editor-in-chief of Playboy. Stratten was one of the most recognizable Playboy Bunnies, whose career Hefner was supposed to have high hopes for. The model appeared on the covers of the magazine several times, and in 1980 she won the then prestigious title of “playmate of the year”. However, her career was brutally cut short. At just 20 years old, Stratten was murdered by her jealous husband, who had previously tied her up and brutally raped her.
As emphasized by Miki Garcia, who was then the director of brand promotion, arranging public appearances of Playmates, already a year before the tragic death of the model, she tried to intervene in Hefner’s case.
When the woman found out that model’s husband Paul Snider had been arrested in Vancouver for drug trafficking and pimping, she sent Hefner a note informing him of Snider’s unsafe behavior.
“I wanted to warn Hef that Dorothy Stratten was with a very dangerous man,” Garcia said in the documentary. “Nobody ever answered me,” she says. “The bodyguards said they didn’t know anything like that.” Really? It is impossible – emphasizes Garcia after many years.
“Hefa didn’t care, he just didn’t care,” she admitted, emphasizing that Hefner had high hopes for Startten, believing that the model would help him sell a record number of magazines. In her opinion, Hefner’s involvement in her personal life could prevent him from achieving his goal, complicating the relationship between the two men.
As she admitted, Stratten’s murder was for her “the drop that poured the cup of bitterness”. – It was too much. I was shocked, Garcia admitted, suggesting that Hefner was aware of the danger to the model.
